Duration of traineeship

3 years
One third of the training time is devoted to one of three branches:

  • glass design
  • Christmas tree decorations
  • artificial eyes

 
The venues for training are company and vocational school (Berufsschule)

Field of activity

Glass blowers shape pre-heated glass tubes and rods. By blowing and modelling the glass using various tools they craft - either to customer specification or their own design - products such as

  • glassware, glass ornaments and glass animals,
  • Christmas tree decorations,
  • artificial eyes,
  • depending on field of specialization.

The work of glass blowers also includes tasks relating to the organization of production, such as calculating prices for quotations and preparing the work process with due account taken of economic efficiency considerations and health, safety and environmental protection requirements.

Occupational skills

Glass blowers specializing in glass design craft

  • solid glass animal figures,
  • hollow glass animal figures,
  • decorative glassware and vases, both decorated and undecorated.

Glass blowers specializing in Christmas tree decorations

  • craft intricate Christmas tree decorations such as baubles, bells, tree-toppings and freely formed or mould-blown decorative articles;
  • finish Christmas tree decorations using immersion, coating, spraying, hand-painting, stamping, spangling and silk screen printing techniques.

Glass blowers specializing in artificial eyes craft

  • solid glass artificial eyes,
  • hollow glass eyes.
