Duration of traineeship

Training takes place in the specialist areas of pipe and sewer service or industrial
service.
The venues for training are company and part-time vocational school (Berufsschule).

Field of activity

Pipe, sewer and industrial service technicians work in private, public and industrial areas and are employed in pipe and sewer service firms as well as industrial cleaning and maintenance firms.

Occupational skills

Pipe, sewer and industrial service technicians carry out their work independently or on their own authority on the basis of technical documents and regulations as well as legal requirements. They acquire information, plan and coordinate their work. They document their performance and take measures to ensure quality, safety, health and environmental protection at work.

Pipe, sewer and industrial service technicians:

  • plan, monitor and control technical operations
  • operate, monitor, inspect and maintain machines, equipment and special vehicles using safety technology facilities and personal safety equipment
  • clean industrial and sewage facilities taking into account preparatory measures, work safety and environmental protection
  • cooperate in the proper disposal of residue resulting from the work of industrial cleaning, industrial maintenance, pipe and sewer cleaning
  • document and evaluate work procedures and operational processes
  • recognise and rectify operational faults in tools
  • work in an environmentally, hygiene and cost-conscious manner
  • apply relevant legal provisions and technical regulations
  • act in a customer and service-oriented way and make use of information and communications technologies.

Pipe and sewer service specialisation:

  • inspect and document pipe and sewer systems
  • check pipe and sewer systems for leakproofness
  • carry out repairs to pipelines and sewers

Industry service specialisation:

  • exchange solid and liquid auxiliary materials, assemble and dismantle plant components for the purpose of industrial maintenance
  • apply physical and chemical cleaning processes
  • cooperate in the analysis of faults
