Duration of traineeship

2 years
The venues for training are company and part-time vocational school (Berufsschule).

Field of activity

Alteration tailors work in tailor workshops or in the ready-to-wear departments of fashion and department stores.

Occupational skills

Alteration tailors


- alter, modernise and repair items of clothing and domestic textiles
- accept alteration orders and advise customers regarding alteration possibilities and costs
- plan the working steps for altering items of clothing and domestic textiles
- check incoming goods and order materials
- handle working tools, machines and systems
- prepare large and small items and auxiliary materials for alteration work
- iron materials
- complete any necessary sewing work both manually and with a machine
- document order and alteration data
- observe the safety and health protection regulations at work, as well as protection of the environment and efficiency
- carry out quality assurance measures.
