Duration of traineeship

3 years
The venues for training are company and part-time vocational school (Berufsschule).

Field of activity

Surface coaters work in industrial companies and workshops on coating facilities in the areas of electroplating and galvanizing.

Occupational skills

Surface coaters

  • use coating processes for the chemical and electrochemical precipitation of metals and alloys, anodic oxidation and thin-layer technology and galvanization
  • use mechanical, chemical and electrolytic processes for the pre- and post-treatment of uncoated and coated surfaces
  • produce decorative or functional coats through the chemical and electrochemical precipitation of metals and alloys, anodic oxidation, thin-layer technology or galvanization
  • use the basic principles of mechanical processing and joining techniques
  • remove coats from different base materials using mechanical, chemical, electronic and physical processes
  • plan and coordinate the sequence of operations with the upstream and downstream production processes
  • control the production process, operate, monitor and maintain technical facilities and plants, in particular by entering process parameters, modifying control programs, and documenting function and process sequences, including the peripheral facilities
  • take environmental issues, in particular procedures for the recycling and recovery of substances, into account in all phases of the production process
  • ensure the quality of their products as part of the quality management system by using test facilities, as well as systematic error detection and error analysis
  • independently complete the tasks assigned to them in their field of work.
