Field of activity

Watchmakers work in craft and industrial clock making and clock servicing establishments.

Occupational skills

Watchmakers carry out their work independently on the basis of technical documents and job orders. They obtain information, plan and coordinate their work and work in agreement with customers, the business proprietors, colleagues and others. In addition they carry out quality assurance measures, document their work and take industrial safety, health protection and environmental protection measures.

Watchmakers

• take measurements using the latest measuring techniques
• treat and protect surfaces and check their form and condition
• carry out heat treatment and materials testing
• produce workpieces and components manually and by machining
• make temporary and permanent connections
• program and operate CNC machine tools
• keep mechanical and electronic clocks and clock systems and their components in working order
• assemble and dismantle components and assemblies
• advise customers with respect to products and services of the enterprise and process complaints
• check the inventory, procure goods, supervise incoming goods, lodge complaints about incoming
• goods, store and maintain goods
• help determine the range of merchandise, label and display goods
• help with the determination of retail prices, with the drawing up of offers and with servicing and sales accounting
• sell goods and products of the business establishment
• maintain industrially manufactured jewelry
