Field of activity

Textile machine operators in the field of weaving use their specialist skills to manufacture fabrics in a wide variety of designs, while at the same time observing work safety requirements and taking into account quality and economic efficiency considerations. They are responsible for operating, monitoring and maintaining weaving plant and machinery for the manufacture of various fabrics, working in a selfreliant manner, in the correct fashion and to a time schedule. Modern weaving technologies and systems allow the manufacture of woven goods in a wide variety of patterns for use in a wide variety of applications.

Occupational skills

Textile machine operators in the field of weaving work in a self-reliant manner from technical documents and instructions, taking into account quality considerations. Their training enables them to assume responsibility for the tasks in their area of expertise and to work together with other operational divisions within the company.
Textile machine operators use the following skills acquired during their vocational training:

  • identifying different textile raw materials and their products according to their properties and intended use;
  • plotting textile designs and drawing up and using design specifications;
  • checking and preparing material for processing;
  • operating and maintaining plant and machinery involved in weaving preparation and applying different processes to manufacture specimen material on the looms;
  • using operational data collection and evaluation systems;
  • checking woven goods for faults on inspection and making-up machines;
  • servicing plant and machinery and rectifying faults.
