Designation of occupation

Vehicle varnisher

Duration of traineeship

 3 years
 The venues for training are company and part-time vocational school (Berufsschule).

Field of activity

Vehicle varnishers design surfaces. They produce surface coatings and applications for vehicles, superstructures, objects, individual and mass-produced parts, both in new production and in restoration and repair. They repair, assemble and disassemble components and systems.

Occupational skills

Vehicle varnishers carry out their work independently and in a customer-oriented manner on the basis of work orders, both alone and as part of a team. They plan and coordinate their work and determine the necessary steps and material. They take measures for safety and health protection on the job as well as environmental protection in the workplace. They talk with customers, check their work for errors, document their work, carry out quality assurance measures and record material and time expenditure for calculating the services rendered.  

Vehicle varnishers

  • check and evaluate undersurfaces and prepare them for final coating,
  • carry out protective measures for surfaces which are not to be processed,
  • coat, treat and design surfaces,
  • produce lettering, designs and effect lacquering,
  • maintain and repair surfaces,
  • check electrical, electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic components and systems for functioning,
  • carry out disassembly and assembly work as well as glazing on vehicles
  • carry out repair work on vehicles and vehicle parts,
  • take measurements and document the results,
  • select, set up, operate and maintain implements, tools, machines and equipment for the job,
  • process materials and components.
