Duration of traineeship

3 years
The venues for training are the company and part-time vocational school (Berufsschule).

Field of activity

Specialists in port logistics work on transit terminals and in warehouses for unit loads and bulk goods in sea and river ports.

Occupational skills

Specialists in port logistics are responsible for

  • accepting export and import goods from different means of transport and checking the delivery based on the accompanying documentation
  • inspecting goods for quantity, quality, identity and condition, and documenting the result
  • selecting containers for transport, planning, conducting, checking and documenting loading operations
  • compiling goods into loading units, unloading them into means of transport and securing them
  • planning and organising working procedures in a customer-oriented manner, participating in planning and organisation processes and conducting quality assurance measures
  • storing goods in the correct manner and processing storage goods in order to maintain their condition and/or in accordance with customer requirements
  • processing dispatch and transit papers
  • checking, loading/unloading and securing hazardous goods and applying measures to avoid risk
  • using working materials and means of conveyance
  • using company information and communication systems, standard software and workplace-specific software
  • working within a team, communicating and cooperating with previous and forthcoming service providers and using their knowledge of foreign languages
