Certified media specialist

1. Field of work and areas of responsibility 

Certified media specialists are qualified to undertake job-specific technical, organizational and management tasks in companies in the media industry. They are qualified and authorized to provide company-based training and further training (training skills).

2. Occupational skills 

Certified media specialists have many years of occupational experience which they have as a rule acquired through relevant initial vocational training and further occupational practice. In order to perform the above-mentioned tasks, they command the following skills:

2.1 Basic skills
- Application of legal and business management principles;
- Application of information, communication and planning methods;
- Cooperation in the enterprise;

2.2 Job-specific skills

- in the field of production processes
Cross-media skills: know about media products, methods and processes and apply them in decision-making;
· Media design: develop design concepts systematically and with a view to decision-making;
· Media-based data processing: evaluate data for media production and develop concepts for cross-media data management;
· Media production: know about media production processes and take them into account in the planning and design of media products;

- in the field of project and product planning
· Project management: plan and calculate projects and products under marketing aspects;
· Media law and regulations: take into account relevant legal areas;

- in the field of management and organization
· Personnel management;
· Personnel development;
· Planning, control and communication systems;
· Cost management.

3. Skills accreditation 

According to the Federal Government regulation of 26 October 2004 (Federal Law Gazette BGBl. Part I p. 2670), the certified media specialist must have demonstrated the skills listed in section 2 above in an examination administered under public law with a focus on practical application and job-related skills. A certificate is awarded on passing the examination.

4. Examination requirements 

Before sitting the examination for certified media specialist, all candidates must have completed vocational training in a recognized occupation which can be assigned to the media industry, and they must have at least two years' relevant work experience or provide evidence of a comparable qualification.
Courses are offered to prepare candidates for the examination; their duration depends on the various functional and managerial tasks.
