Certified real estate specialists are qualified to perform tasks and functions at the middle-management level in real estate firms and real estate units of enterprises in other sectors or as leaders of their own businesses.
Owing to their extensive and in-depth knowledge of the core processes of the real estate business as well as broad cognitive skills, they can in particular fulfil the following functions independently and on their own responsibility:
1. Evaluation of business operations in the real estate sector taking into account the economic, business management, technical and legal context, and definition of the proper steps for action on that basis;
2. Design and organization of real estate projects in a team-based approach, using and taking into account the instruments available for the control of commercial operations;
3. Systematic treatment of complex, demanding and varied problems in core business processes of the real estate sector applying relevant working and problem-solving techniques. This also includes reviewing and developing their own work and the performance of others.
Certified real estate specialists command knowledge, skills and experience which they have as a rule gained in the course of the pertinent vocational training and work practice. In order to perform the above-mentioned tasks, they command skills in the following areas:
a) General conditions of the real estate sector;
b) Management and control;
c) Staff, work organization, and qualification;
d) Real estate management;
e) Building project management;
f) Market orientation and marketing, broking.
According to the Federal Government regulations of 25 January 2008 (Federal Law Gazette BGBl. Part I p.117), the certified real estate specialist must have demonstrated the skills listed in section 2 above in an examination administered under public law. A certificate is awarded on passing the examination.
Before sitting the examination, candidates must have successfully completed the vocational training for a recognized commercial occupation in the real estate business followed by at least one year of work experience or they must have completed the vocational training for another recognized commercial or administrative occupation followed by at least two years of work experience, or furnish proof of at least five years of work experience.
Courses are offered in preparation for the examination; their duration is geared to the different operational and managerial tasks.
