Certified Insurance and Finance Specialist

1. Field of work and areas of responsibility 

Certified insurance and finance specialists are qualified to perform responsible tasks independently in the insurance and financial sector and in corresponding organizational units of other commercial companies. 
These tasks include in particular

  • Analysing and assessing the situation within the company in the commercial, economic and legal context and drawing conclusions with regard to the operational steps that need to be taken;
  • Conducting risk analyses and assessments of demand as well as developing customer-oriented strategies for dealing with private and commercial risks; 
  • Performing managerial and qualification tasks and designing and conducting projects, making systematic and targeted use of the managerial principles and communications techniques; 
  • Initiating the development of innovative products and cooperating in product development projects; 
  • Performing qualified tasks in one of the company's core processes selected:
  1. In sales management, the organization and optimization of business processes in the sales sector
  2. In risk management, the management of complex risks or 
  3. In damages and compensation management, processing complex cases involving damages and compensation, taking into account assistance payments.

2. Occupational skills 

Certified insurance and finance specialists have relevant professional experience which they have as a rule acquired through initial vocational training and further professional practice. They

  • Take profits and processes into account in their actions and decisions;
  • Train members of staff in initial and continuing training courses;
  • Make use of personnel development instruments;
  • Conduct projects systematically and with a focus on results;
  • Use marketing instruments systematically and with a focus on decision-making.
  • Certified insurance and finance specialists have extensive competences, skills and experience in one of the selected training focuses in the field of "Product management for insurance and financial products":
    a) Non-life insurance for commercial customers
    b) Asset insurance for commercial customers
    c) Life insurance and company pension schemes
    d) Health and accident insurance
    e) Reinsurance
    f) Financial services for private and commercial customers.

3. Skills accreditation 

The certified insurance and finance specialist has demonstrated the skills described under No. 2 in an examination administered under public law in accordance with the Federal Government regulations of 26 August 2008 (Federal Law Gazette BGBl Part I, p. 1758).  A certificate was awarded upon passing the examination.

 

4. Examination requirements 

Preconditions for sitting the examination to become a certified insurance and finance specialist are: the successful completion of the final examination in a recognized training occupation in the insurance sector followed by at least one year of professional experience or completion of training in another recognized administrative or commercial occupation followed by at least two years of professional experience, or at least four years of professional experience. This professional experience must be closely connected with the above-listed tasks of a certified insurance and finance specialist. Alternatively, persons who can provide certificates or other evidence proving that they have gained the necessary knowledge, skills and experience entitling them to sit the examination are eligible to take the examination. 
Courses are offered in preparation for the examination; their duration is geared to the different operational and managerial tasks.
