Certified IT-Systems Manager

1. Field of work and areas of responsibility 

Certified IT Systems Managers are qualified to develop and implement technically optimal and market-standard IT solutions and plan, direct, and control IT development projects in businesses which produce, provide or use products or services of information and communications technology. They adapt flexibly to changing local and global market conditions and to methods of self and process management, and can organise the technical and organisational changes taking into account factors of social acceptance. They carry out line management tasks.

2. Occupational skills 

Certified IT Systems Managers have many years' professional experience, generally acquired by relevant vocational training followed by further work practice at the level of certified specialist. To carry out the tasks described above, they have acquired skills in the following areas:

2.1 Planning, implementation and documentation of a practice-relevant project or a task from at least one of the following IT business processes:

  • Analysing project parameters and designing IT solutions
  • Implementing and integrating the solutions components, carrying out tests and accepting
    products or solutions
  • Planning, directing and controlling IT development projects

2.2 Profile-specific IT tasks from the following business processes:

  • Analysing the conditions for market-standard solutions
  • Planning the development process for IT solutions
  • Implementing the development process for IT solutions

2.3 Line management and personnel management

  • Personnel planning and selection
  • Line and team management
  • Personnel qualification/certification
  • Employment law

 

3. Skills accreditation 

The IT Systems Manager has demonstrated the qualifications described in 2. above in an examination under public law regulated by Federal Ordinance of 3 May 2002 (Bundesgesetzblatt [Federal Law Gazette] I p. 1547) conducted on a practice-related, process and operations-orientated basis. A certificate is issued on successful completion of the examination.

 

4. Examination requirements 

Persons holding a certificate of completion of a recognised apprenticeship in the field of information and telecommunications technology followed by a minimum of two years' working practice or a comparable qualification shall be admitted to the examination for Certified IT Systems Manager. Furthermore, the working practice must correspond with certification as an IT specialist pursuant to the "Agreement on the Specialist Profiles of 14 February 2002" (BAnz. [Federal Law Bulletin] No. 105a of 12 June 2002) or a correspondingly comprehensive and in-depth qualification.
Training programmes are also offered for preparation for the examination to Certified IT Systems Manager; their duration and content are orientated to the differentiated functions and management tasks.
