The Leonardo project TransEQFrame
The Trans-European Qualifications Framework Development project (Leonardo project TransEQFrame)
As part of European cooperation in vocational education and training, a comprehensive European qualifications framework (Maastricht Communiqué from 2004) that covers all sectors of education was developed in 2006 to foster
- the transparency of qualifications,
- permeability between general education, vocational training and university education,
- the identification and validation of informally / non-formally acquired competences and
- mobility on the labour market.
The Leonardo project TransEQFrame is being conducted in connection with the implementation of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF). It has the following objectives:
- Test the validity of the EQF within the context of existing / developing national qualification frameworks,
- Foster the transnational recognition of qualifications between partner country through the application of the EQF as an instrument for translating qualifications from other systems,
- Contribute to the further development of the EQF in the national education and training structures in partner countries.
The project targets the following results:
- A joint paper on the objectives and approaches for adapting the EQF at national level (policy level),
- A joint paper on theoretical concepts and methodological approaches for adapting the EQF to national education contexts (research level),
- A joint paper on the importance of the EQF - and of national qualifications frameworks - for the structures and processes of training systems (institutional and stakeholder level),
- Testing the EQF as a translation tool,
- Recommendations for education and training stakeholders in partner countries and at EU level.
