Credit systems as tools for fostering lifelong learning

This research project revolves around credit systems. It aims to ascertain how credit systems operate at the intersections between access to the training system and the transition to qualification sub-systems (stocktaking and systematisation). This also includes examining the question of which institutional conditions are needed for the development and expansion credit systems with lifelong learning in mind and thus for contributing to greater permeability.
The project's primary research questions focus on identifying, systematising and classifying the procedures and systems used in the individual countries for describing, documenting and crediting learning outcomes. It will examine methodological / conceptual bases, institutional frameworks and de-facto use of credit transfers.
Following the stocktaking phase, this research project will then point out from various perspectives, the opportunities, options and needs for regulation that will arise during the development of a German credit point system that is compatible with the European concepts for the ECVET and can operate at the above-mentioned intersections in the German education system.
