BIBB Training Panel
Establishment Panel on Training and Competence Development
The expectation is that the supply of qualified skilled workers to the labour market will decline over the next few years due to falling numbers of school leavers and an ageing society. This is something which companies will need to take appropriate steps to address if they are to remain competitive in the long term. How companies are dealing with the challenges thrown up by demographic change and how they are adapting to the impending shortage of skilled workers are issues which are of particular interest to academic research and VET and labour market policy. Are companies focusing more on providing their own initial and continuing training to employees or are they pursuing other strategies to enable them to cover skilled worker requirements in future? Current data is needed in order to be able to respond to these questions.
With financial support from the Ministry of Education and Research, BIBB is preparing its regular survey of German companies on the topic of training and competence development for this purpose. The Training Panel is an annual survey which provides representative data on skilled worker requirements and training activities in companies of different sizes and in different branches in East and West Germany.
