Recognition in Germany
The online portal "Recognition in Germany" is the official information portal on the Federal Recognition Act (Anerkennungsgesetz) of the German government. BIBB publishes the online portal on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Using the portal, migrants and foreign skilled workers can determine how and where to submit an application for recognition of their foreign professional qualification. In just a few clicks, the "Recognition Finder" takes them to the competent authority for the matter they need addressed. The website also contains further information bundled on subjects such as the labour market, life in Germany, evaluation of university diplomas and school-leaving certificates, academic recognition and regional counselling services. In addition, counsellors will find all the relevant information they need regarding procedures for occupational recognition as well as the legal basis for this.
The Assessment and Recognition of Foreign Professional Qualifications Act (abbreviated form: Recognition Act) went into effect on 1 April 2012 and provides the first nationwide, uniform legal basis for recognition of foreign professional qualifications which fall under the jurisdiction of the federal government. The Recognition Act is an omnibus act that includes a new federal law, the Professional Qualifications Assessment Act (Berufsqualifikationsfeststellungsgesetz - BQFG) as well as changes and amendments to sectoral laws and ordinances in legislation governing professional qualifications. The Recognition Act facilitates recognition of professional qualifications and integration of qualified migrants and foreign skilled workers into the German labour market.
The online portal is financed through the support programme "Integration by Qualification (IQ)" sponsored by the BMBF, the German Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) and the German Federal Employment Agency (BA).
