Germany's Federal Minister of Education and Research Annette Schavan and her Spanish counterpart José Ignacio Wert Ortega signed a cooperation agreement in Stuttgart on 12 July 2012 that will provide the basis for closer cooperation between Germany and Spain in the area of vocational education and training.
The cooperation agreement was accompanied by a decision to set up a task force which held its first meeting in Madrid on 22 November 2012. Comprised of representatives of the governments and social partners in the two countries, the task force has developed a work programme for further action and has drafted concrete proposals for the structure of the two countries' collaboration. One next step will be to conduct a fact-finding mission to identify projects for collaboration and systematically gather information regarding the Spanish vocational training system.
BIBB will put its expert knowledge and organisational expertise in the vocational education and training (VET) field to use in connection with German-Spanish VET cooperation. The next steps to specify this cooperation are expected to be taken at a ministerial conference on vocational education and training being held in Berlin on 10 and 11 December 2012.
