By establishing the europass, the European Commission created an instrument that helps European citizens describe their skills, competences and qualifications in a clear, standardised form.
The europass framework concept took effect on 1 January 2005 and currently consists of the five following documents:
- europass CV - European curriculum vitae
- europass Language Passport - Documentation of language skills
- europass Mobility - Documentation of organised periods of times spent in another European country for the purpose of learning or training
- europass Certificate Supplement - Additional information regarding official vocational certificates
- europass Diploma Supplement - Additional information regarding university degrees or diplomas.
National Europass Centres (NEC) have been set up at Member State level to implement the europass. The National Europass Centre in Germany has been located at the National Agency - Education for Europe at the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (NA at BIBB) since 1 January 2007.
