Information system for occupations requiring initial or continuing vocational education and training
Documentation regarding skilled occupations that require formal vocational training and regarding qualification acquired in the course of further vocational training - List of recognized skilled occupations - Genealogy of skilled occupations
The Federal Institute for Vocational Training ("BIBB") launched the Initial and Continuing Vocational Education and Training ("A.WE.B" - the German acronym) information system in 1998 and has continually developed it to keep the public informed about skilled occupations that require formal initial vocational training or continuing vocational training. This system can be accessed on the Internet.
One of the aims of the A.WE.B information system is to provide timely information on recognized skilled occupations that go into effect each year. The system also contains descriptions of the most popular skilled occupations in Germany. Occupational profiles for these occupations can be accessed in German, English or French.
The information provided on all recognized skilled occupations is based on particulars from the list of recognized skilled occupations. These include the source of the legislation underlying the particular occupation, classification, duration of the required training and the number of trainees in the particular occupation.
Information that users can retrieve on provisions governing continuing vocational training include particulars regarding the type of provision, the date of the legislation or regulation, the source of the information and the name and address of the pertinent office or agency.
The A.WE.B information system also contains information regarding the development of individual skilled occupations over time ("genealogy"). This information is also illustrated with the help of a "family tree".
This information is available in a database system that can also be used to generate a print-out of the list of recognized skilled occupations
