BWP 1/2009

Fostering potential - Shaping diversity

This issue of BWP examines the extent to which a diversity management concept that fosters diversity and views it as an opportunity can be implemented in vocational education and training. Conceptual considerations and examples from day-to-day practice are presented in the articles in this issue. Professor Dr Reinhold Weiß, head of research at BIBB, emphasizes in his commentary "Appreciate and Develop Diversity!" that the diversity concept goes hand-in-hand with an unequivocal commitment to valuing and fostering the individual's potential in differentiated ways in vocational education and training. This appreciation must also raise awareness for an improved recognition of qualifications earned abroad. This issue of BWP also contains articles on the subject of a training bonus for unplaced training place applicants from previous years and on the influence the General Equal Treatment Act has on vocational training.
