Currently, the VET Data Report 2017 is only available in German. The English edition will be published by the end of the year. Some of the major findings of the Data Report are illustrated in the poster “German Dual VET in Figures”.
The VET Data Report is issued by the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB). It reports systematically on the current situation and the newest developments in vocational education and training. It is based on empirical data and social research analyses and forms the data basis for the Report on Vocational Education and Training published by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
The English version of the Data Report is a summary of the German report and provides a selection of the main findings. The individual chapters present central indicators relating to initial and continuing vocational education and training in the dual system and illustrate developments that have taken place over time.
Dual VET takes place at two learning venues. The responsibility of providing for vocational education and training is shared between a company and a vocational school. The large majority of training takes place at a company. In-company training is supplemented by teaching carried out in vocational schools.
A training contract constitutes a legally binding agreement between an apprentice or trainee and an employer which defines the rights and responsibilities of each party.
A recognised training occupation is an occupation that requires formal training. The content of the training is defined in training regulations that include requirements with regard to abilities, knowledge and skills that the trainee or apprentice learns in the course of training.
