Abstract
Information and communication technology (ICT) applications can be found in nearly all areas of life today. Mastery of these applications has become a broad public issue as the foregoing statement by a trainer in the electrical engineering field shows. It is no accident that the Einstein Year 2005 is being followed by the Computer Science Year 2006 or that large segments of the German government's youth policy programme revolve around training to meet the demands of the information society.
