The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has been promoting individual vocational advanced training with its “Continuing Education Grant” programme since December 2008. The programme has been continued in its 3rd funding period since 1 July 2014, and will run until the end of December 2017. This federal government programme is co-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF).
The “Continuing Education Grant” consists of two components: the Prämiengutschein which is a bonus voucher and the Spargutschein which is an advanced training savings voucher. Both kinds of vouchers may also be combined.
With these instruments, the “Continuing Education Grant” aims at supporting and improving the participation in advanced training programmes of those gainfully employed people who have so far refrained from engaging in advanced training activities for financial reasons.
The “Continuing Education Grant” programme office at the BIBB is part of the Division 2.3 "Costs, Benefits, Financing"; its main responsibility is the provision of technical support and advice to the federal ministry in the implementation of the programme and regarding a concept for the continuation of this funding instrument. The basis for this are close co-operation and regular co-ordination with the other programme partners as well as scientific supervision and evaluation of the programme through the programme office.
