Content acquisition strategy

The VET Repository is intended to continually grow. In order to do so, it needs various measures for acquiring new full texts. The basis for this is provided by the content acquisition strategy defined in 2018, which was revised in 2021 on the basis of measures already implemented.

The VET Repository is the consistent further development of the Vocational Education and Training Literature Database (LDBB) to become the central research platform for specialist literature in vocational education and training. In addition to providing a modern search interface for the vocational education and training community, increasing the number of Open Access (OA) publications directly accessible via the VET Repository is the top priority here.

With a view to being able to offer more digital specialist publications, the Repository is implementing the content acquisition strategy developed in 2018. The plan is to increase the proportion of OA publications through contact and negotiations with various stakeholders and institutes on the academic publication market for vocational education and training research. In this way, the VET Repository will be able to provide faster, simpler and more permanent access to digital publications.

Various measures have already been partially implemented in order to move closer to this goal. Here is an overview of the five pillars of the content acquisition strategy:

  • In-house publications with BIBB as editor
  • VET Repository as publication platform
  • Negotiations with publishers
  • Cooperation arrangements
  • Participation in Open Access initiatives
