Sustainability at work – future-oriented training (Nachhaltig im Beruf – zukunftsorientiert ausbilden)

Through its funding programme Sustainability at work – future-oriented training (NIB), the Federal Ministry for Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth is promoting sustainability-oriented vocational training.

Transforming the economy in a socially and ecologically sustainable way, achieving climate targets while maintaining innovation and economic competitiveness will not be possible without qualified skilled workers. Therefore, vocational training is the key to sustainable change.

Sustainability at work (NIB) strengthens the implementation, dissemination and establishment of vocational training for sustainable development (BBNE). It supports the application of the standard occupational profile 'Environmental Protection and Sustainability' in training practice, ensuring that tomorrow's skilled workers learn to act in an ecologically, socially and economically responsible manner today. This turns skilled workers into pioneers, trainers into multipliers, and companies into agents of sustainable change.

The programme is co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus. The BIBB is responsible for technical support, while Knappschaft-Bahn-See (KBS) is responsible for administrative support. The programme comprises several components:

  • Promotion of ongoing implementation projects

Promotion of projects to strengthen the sustainability-related skills of company training staff, through the further development, implementation and dissemination of BBNE training programmes; the training of continuing education instructors (train-the-trainer); and the strengthening of BBNE networks for disseminating good practice.

  • Promotion of transformation projects:

Promotion of projects that find innovative qualification approaches to support companies in meeting the challenges of sustainable transformation.

  • Establishment of a network unit:

A network unit set up at BIBB boosts the transfer of programme results and starts networking with various initiatives and stakeholders in vocational education and training.
