"Dual system of vocational education and training in transformation: connecting skilled workers, companies and the future" – this is the motto of the international conference of the Alliance for the dual system of vocational education and training in Latin America and the Caribbean. The conference has been organised by the Brazilian vocational training institute SENAC (National Service for Training in Commerce and Tourism), which has held the presidency of the Alliance since April.

From 22 to 24 October, representatives of national VET institutions from eleven Latin American countries will gather at SENAC's headquarters in Rio de Janeiro. High-ranking representatives from politics and business are expected to attend the opening ceremony, including the president of the employers' association CNC (Confederação Nacional do Comércio de Bens, Serviços e Turismo), a representative of the Ministry of Labour, and the president of ILO/Cinterfor (the Technical Secretariat of the Inter-American Centre of the International Labour Organisation). The directors of the 27 SENAC regional offices will also take part in the programme on the first two days. Numerous items on the agenda are designed to facilitate intensive exchange between participants. A total of around 100 people are expected to attend in person. It will also be possible to join online.

The three-day programme includes various specialist presentations, panel discussions and workshops. The main topics are:

  • Day 1: Dual vocational training in Latin America and the Caribbean
  • Day 2: The role of companies in training
  • Day 3: Working session of the alliance members (including the development of a strategy paper and the definition of key topics for the coming years)

Details can be found in the official programme. A report will be published here on bibb.de following the conference.

The Alliance for Dual VET in Latin America and the Caribbean (Alianza para la formación dual de América Latina y el Caribe) was founded in 2021 on the initiative of BIBB, among others. Its members are leading VET institutions from Latin America and the Caribbean. BIBB is the reference institution and, together with OIT/Cinterfor (Technical Secretariat), provides counselling and supports the respective one-year presidency within the framework of the Alianza's coordination group.
