Research interest

Pan Qiujing is interested in the German dual apprenticeship system as well as the role and meaning of BIBB. In fact, with the rising importance of VET within higher education, it becomes more and more necessary to rethink the definition and the pedagogical didactic of talent training in non-academic universities in China and Japan in addressing the dilemmas as well as the current and challenges ahead, BIBB has been taken attention to the research on the connection and application of vocational education and higher education. Her special interest lies in understanding and analyzing the trends towards the development of vocational offers within the higher education system. For this purpose Germany, China and Japan are to be investigated in a comparative way. She will utilize BIBB’s resources and European’s experiences to address her research questions.

Her research questions are:

  1. How to get a better balance between theoretical knowledge and practical skills /competencies at non-academic universities, such as local public universities, traditional private universities, and independent colleges in China?  Which aspects of the German dual system and which new approaches and trends of Higher VET in Europe may be the most applicable to non-academic universities, especially for Chinese independent colleges and traditional private universities those surviving only relying on students' tuitions and under the low-quality levels.
  2. Quality assurance of non-academic universities based on Higher VET approach is also an important item that cannot be ignored by all stakeholders from the national level to the system level, and will certainly remain so. However, what is quality in Higher VET? How can it be assured? Do the German/European experiences may help to provide some meaningful applications for thinking about this issue in China or Japan?

  3. What problems - cultural and political - could arise when the non-academic universities change towards higher VET in China

The rich resources and research data in BIBB will provide great support for her doctoral thesis and further research activities. Pan Qiujing is much honored to have this opportunity to research at BIBB during this year.
