Guidelines of the VET Repository
Publishing Open Access
BIBB supports free access to scientific information. The Open Access publications of BIBB are published under the Creative Commons License BY-SA 4.0. With this license, content can be shared, adapted, and reused as long as the author is credited.
You also have the possibility to publish works via the VET Repository. Primarily, the publication process is aimed at literature published in Germany. You are welcome to use our upload form, which is currently only available in German.
Initial publications can be published under the CC BY-SA license or under the simple usage rights of German copyright law. Literature published abroad under a CC license may be republished under the same license in the VET Repository.
If you are interested in publishing with us, please feel free to contact us using the contact form.
Contracts
Depending on whether it is a initial or secondary publication and whether you wish to publish under German copyright law or CC license, different contract versions apply. For secondary publications, no separate publication contract needs to be concluded if a CC license has already been granted. Any legal questions can be clarified through direct contact.
Your advantages when publishing in the VET Repository
- The use of our services for research and publication in the VET Repository is free of charge for you.
- The VET Repository team adds a uniform cover sheet and imprint to your publication.
- Each publication receives a URN (Uniform Resource Name) for permanent citation.
- As part of the legal deposit law, the publication is submitted by us to the German National Library, if this has not already been done.
- BIBB supports young researchers and accepts qualification papers for publication if they are thematically relevant to the VET Repository and have received at least a "good" grade.
- BIBB guarantees the archiving of publications published in the VET Repository for at least five years. Should reasons arise that require the removal of the full text, the bibliographic information about the publication will remain available.
- The data of the VET Repository is hosted in Germany. Only data is collected which is absolutely necessary for the publication in the VET Repository.
Please note:
Due to capacity reasons, the VET Repository team does not provide proofreading, layout, or typesetting services for your submission. These services can be independently commissioned, e.g., by external authors or cooperation partners. Costs for such services will not be reimbursed.

That is, you must obtain the necessary consent from your co-authors for the publication.
If you are the editor of a publication, please contact us.

Depending on whether it is a initial or secondary publication and whether you wish to publish under German copyright law or a CC license, different contract variants apply:
- Publication contract German copyright law: These terms apply for initial and secondary publications where you transfer the simple usage rights under German copyright law to BIBB.

The VET Repository team does not check whether images (e.g., photos, graphics, or icons) in your publications may be used from a legal perspective We assume that you will only submit images suitable for use in an online publication that do not infringe third-party rights. You agree to this within the contract. Below are some guidelines:
- Every image is protected by copyright. Do not use third-party images without explicit consent from the copyright holder ("Usage Rights").
- The provider of the images (e.g., online databases) may not be the author/creator of the image. Please verify if the provider is authorized to grant you usage rights.
- The usage rights must be clearly defined ("Scope of Use"). For example, the usage rights may be limited to private use or may be time-limited or restricted to the print version of a publication.
- When using an image, proof of the usage rights must be provided.
- The author/creator of an image must be credited ("Attribution Right"), unless they have explicitly waived this right.
- Even when using your own images, if other people appear in the photo, their consent is required before publishing the image ("Personality Rights/Data Protection"). This consent should always be obtained in writing.
If you do not have the usage rights for certain images, you may need to redact them. Please let us know if the rights to the images and publication differ when you submit your work.
If there is a valid reason, such as a breach of a contract obligation, full texts may be removed from the VET Repository. Please note that for reasons of good scientific practice, bibliographic details about your publication will remain. Additionally, due to internet distribution, we cannot delete publications that have been downloaded or distributed.
Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) are used to reliably and permanently find, identify, and cite electronically published works. A PID is a unique label that stays the same even if the name or location of a publication changes, unlike the more transient URL. Examples of PIDs for publications are URN (Uniform Resource Name) or DOI (Digital Object Identifier). A URN is assigned to the publication when it is first published via the VET Repository. If PIDs are already available, they must be provided.
