Library
The library of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training has over 100,000 media items and currently subscribes to around 160 periodicals, making it the largest specialist academic library in German-speaking countries for VET and VET research.
The main focus of the library's collection is German-language literature on the topics of VET and VET research. Literature covering research methods, administrative tasks and legal issues is also available. The focus of the library's content is guided by the BIBB’s research priorities. This mainly comprises the following topic areas:
- VET system, training system,
- Historical and methodological issues relating to vocational education and training and vocational education and training research,
- Vocational education and training policy,
- Training market system and employment system,
- Modernisation and quality assurance of VET,
- Conditions and structures of lifelong learning,
- Diversity of vocational education and training,
- Internationalisation of VET,
- Pre-vocational training/careers guidance,
- Costs and benefits of company-based vocational education and training,
- Education and training personnel in VET,
- Transformation in vocational education and training and the world of work.
The library stock is fully indexed in our library catalogue and can be searched online. The library participates in inter-library loans between libraries in the Federal Republic of Germany. External users are therefore able to order individual books or even copies of essays from journals from other libraries authorised to make inter-library loans. External users can also use the library's collections on site. Our reading room has both single-user and group workstations available. We provide free WiFi for mobile devices, and copies and scans can also be made. Lockers are also available.
